Five significant changes in 2015

4)Mac

When I look back this year, there were five significant changes.

1) Grew my company su-re.co.
The environmental consulting company su-re.co slowly started in this year and growing at sustainable pace. Now, we are the team of five.  I am planning to hire two more people next year.

2) Came back to academics (officially).
I got a professorship at Udayana University and started working on European Commission research projects.  I will travel to Europe every 6 months as well as Africa and Asia from this year.  Still, you see me on the beach more than the university.

3) Surfed less, but enjoyed more.
I travelled a lot more again this year, so I surfed less days, I guess. But, I rarely surfing alone in this year.  I surfed with my sons in the morning.  I made another annual surf trip with friends in Sumbawa.  I surfed in Iki, Japan after some years. I surfed with more boards including a longboard.

4) Switched to Mac and made digital de-toxic with Nokia.
I (or something unknown) broke my two Windows notebook and two smartphones.  So, I switched to Macbook and $10-Nokia phone.  Now, you see me less on Facebook and emails ;-) This is a great tranquilliser.

5) New family member.
I had hesitated to have a pet and I was not so interested in the cat until Lily came to our house.  The beautiful cat self-invited herself.  Now, we all love her!

Have a happy new year!

New UNIDO report: "Promoting Climate Resilient Industry" for COP21 Paris

https://www.unido.org/fileadmin/user_media_upgrade/What_we_do/Topics/Energy_access/01._UNIDO_Promoting_Climate_Resilient_Industry.pdf

UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organisation) published a strategic report which I worked as the advisor of climate change and green economy.  The report: "Promoting Climate Resilient Industry" and is disseminated at Climate Change Conference COP21, Paris, right now.  If you are in COP, please take a copy at the UNIDO booth or may download from here. https://www.unido.org/fileadmin/user_media_upgrade/What_we_do/Topics/Energy_access/01._UNIDO_Promoting_Climate_Resilient_Industry.pdf

This is one of my contribution.  I really believe that we can do a lot of climate actions in value chain "Promoting value chain based approach for climate resilient industry" (p. 15):

The scarcity of resources and the direct impact of climate-related disasters could result in a “bottleneck” for vulnerable value chains. It is therefore important to assess a whole value chain to understand the impacts of climate change. In UNIDO’s Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Industrial Development projects in Egypt, Kenya, Senegal and South Africa, funded by Japan, local project teams conducted a vulnerability assessment for potential bottlenecks in the value chain of target sectors.
For example, the tea sector in Kenya suffered a serious production loss in 2015 due to a water shortage, which is a key resource in the sector. In Egypt, a heat wave could result in a severe climate disaster for the fresh meat and frozen vegetable sectors, which would create an adaptation need for cold storage and logistics. UNIDO, through this project, aims to promote the use of low emission technologies to address those adaptation needs with minimum additional GHG emissions. Future value chain assessments could go beyond conventional areas, to include access to global markets and micro-finance, as well as insurance, to motivate local industries to produce higher value products at a larger scale, but in sustainable and climate-friendly ways.
