From Bali, I report environment and climate change projects. I earned a PhD in environment at Oxford University and worked at an environmental thinktank before my JICA Expert life.

A happy new year! I hope to see you again in this year!!
2016 was one of my busiest years if not actually the busiest!!
My main work was the founder and CEO of su-re.co (Sustainability & resilience). The company grows well. 19 interns and staff members were registered in 2016 and I expected to have more in this year. We already have two published academic papers under su-re.co related to climate change in 2016: 1) "Identified vulnerability contexts for a paddy production assessment with climate change in Bali, Indonesia" (here) and 2) "Role of microfinance to support agricultural climate change adaptations in Indonesia: Encouraging private sector participation in climate finance" (here).
We also hosted our 1st Sustainability & Resilient Bioenergy Workshop with 70 international academics, policymakers, and stakeholders. We presented the results at a few international conferences including 15th World Renewable Energy Congress (WREC) and 5th Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum (APAN).
I think 2016 was the fruitful first year for su-re.co ;-)
su-re.co will continues working on research and consultation for government and international organisation, but as our 2nd year, we will directly engage sustainability and resilient actions. In 2017, our focus is to produce climate resilient coffee. We are working with coffee farmers in vulnerable areas of Indonesia based on our climate change vulnerability assessment. We will develop biogas digester to roast coffee as well as to solve indoor house pollution, energy, and deforestation. So, the coffee is used as a climate change adaptation and mitigation measure and green business.
We are building new office and home with 80% up-cycled materials including abandoned fishing boats, antique wood house, and containers. This project will take a few years to finish, but we are hoping to move in there in March.
As an individual researcher/consultant, I continue working for Stockholm Environment Institute, Udayana University, and international organisations. My engagement in Europe and Africa will continue, so I may meet some of you outside of Indonesia.
Last, my family is doing well. Ryoma (10), Taiga (7), and I go surfing in the morning before going to school and work. Last year, we travelled to South Africa together driving from Cape Town to Johannesburg through Kruger national park for safari. They are growing well as free-ranging kids ;-)
Please let me know if you have a chance to visit Bali! I look forward to work and have a good time with you again in 2017.
